Pharmacological Effects
Methandrostenolone is a 17α-alkylated anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) derived from testosterone. Its pharmacological effects include:
- Anabolic Effects: Increases protein synthesis, muscle mass, and strength.
- Androgenic Effects: Promotes male secondary sexual characteristics.
- Erythropoietic Effects: Stimulates red blood cell production.

Indications

- Osteoporosis (to increase bone density).
- Certain refractory anemias (due to its erythropoietic effects).
- Delayed puberty in males (under strict medical supervision).
Recommended Dose
Adults (Male):
- Initial dose: 5–10 mg daily (orally, in divided doses).
- Maintenance dose: 5–15 mg daily (not exceeding 30 mg/day).
- Duration: Short-term (2–4 weeks) due to hepatotoxicity risk.
Delayed Puberty (Male Adolescents):
- 2.5–10 mg/day for 4–6 months under strict medical supervision.
Refractory Anemia (Adults):
- 1–5 mg/kg/week (often combined with other therapies).
Bodybuilding / Performance Enhancement:
Use for non-medical purposes is not approved and poses significant health risks.
Side Effects
- Hepatotoxicity: Liver damage, jaundice, peliosis hepatis.
- Cardiovascular: Hypertension, dyslipidemia, increased LDL, decreased HDL.
- Androgenic: Acne, hirsutism, male-pattern baldness, virilization in women.
- Endocrine: Testicular atrophy, gynecomastia, menstrual irregularities.
- Psychiatric: Aggression, mood swings, dependency.

Contraindications
